'Carnelian is a Talisman
It brings good luck to child and man...
It drives away all evil things,
To thee and thine protection brings.'
So wrote Goethe in his poem 'Pledges of Blessing'.
This warm, orange-red stone is a variety of Chalcedony, a member of the Quartz family.
Used as an adornment by man for over 4,500 years, this stone has come to symbolise courage, strength, health, luck and royalty.
It was prescribed by ancient healers to 'invigorate the blood'.
It is considered a birthstone for both July and Cancer

Natural Carnelian bracelet in sunset hues adorned with faceted Carnelian beads highlighted with Pyrite.
The centrepiece features q 13x4mm Carnelian tube which has a beautiful swirl of colour starting with deep burnt orange, paling to a milky shade, then back to dark.
The body of the circle is made from rows of five 4mm Carnelian beads separated with AAA grade faceted, burnt orange Carnelian highlighted with tiny, 2mm, AAA faceted Pyrite.
The faceted beads add a subtle sparkle.
These semi-translucent Carnelian beads are un-dyed, showing the range of natural colours from almost clear through light amber to rich tawny-orange with occasional lighter bands and milky inclusions.
The circle is completed with a 7mm Tibetan style star bead in antique gold, which is nickel and lead free.
Carnelian is one of the birthstones for July and Cancer, making this an affordable alternative to Ruby for a July birthday gift.
It would also make a lovely anniversary gift, friendship gift, or simply a well-earned treat for yourself.
