Amazonite is a blue-green variety of microcline, part of the feldspar group of minerals.
It was prized by the ancient Egyptians, who placed jewellery and carved ornaments made of Amazonite in the tombs of the dead, and was used to inlay the golden mask of Tutankhamun.
It is regarded as a stone of hope, balancing emotions and soothing stress, and is believed to enhance creativity and intuition.
I like the subtle understatement of larvikite, how it seems at first glance to be a mottled stone of paler and darker grey until light reveals hints of a silvery sheen and flash of blue.
It is named after the region of Larvik in Norway, and was named Norway.
Howlite, also known as Magnesite, is a chalky white borate mineral with dark grey veining.
It has a porous texture which takes dye very well, and is often dyed in turquoise shades, as the veining resembles that of natural Turquoise.
These have been dyed a pretty, pale turquoise shade which goes beautifully with the Larvikite.

Necklace of mixed gemstone and crystal beads, with a Larvikite pendant centrepiece, in shades of smoky grey, light turquoise and silver.
This striking necklace features a 13x18mm Larvikite teardrop pendant flanked with trios of high quality sparkly Austrian crystal bicones in the colours 'Indian sapphire' and 'black diamond'. These sparkly crystals are highlighted with tiny 1.8mm sterling silver spacer beads.
To either side run alternating 6mm beads of natural Larvikite and Chinese Amazonite, set with a further two trios of crystals, graduating to 4mm beads of Larvikite and Howlite, dyed a pale turquoise colour.

The piece fastens with a Tibetan silver toggle clasp.
Handmade in my home workshop here in beautiful Devon in the UK, this would make a lovely gift for a birthday, anniversary, best friend, or as a treat for yourself.
This necklace measures approximately 17 inches (43cm), excluding the pendant.
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
