Full description
Inspired by nature and my love of patterns, this cute little bowl makes an ideal gift for any lover of handmade items, flowers, snacks & dips or pottery.
I throw these cute little dishes on the wheel in stoneware clay. They’re a durable, versatile and unique keepsake item, along with being a practical item. The hand carved and painted design incorporates a central flower with leaves and seed heads in happy shades of pink, orange & green. There’s also a snail hiding amongst the leaves. Being handmade, each dish I make differs slightly, none are ever identical.
How I made it:
There are many steps to making pottery, I’ll miss a few, but essentially, once I’ve thrown the dish on the wheel & it’s hardened I then carve the outlines of the design with a very thin needle. These lines are infilled with dark underglaze.
The dish then has its first kiln firing and I paint the design before dipping in clear glaze. I then fire it again, to a higher, stoneware temperature.
