The world is a bit too serious and scary sometimes. I want to make people smile and spread some love, in my own unique way.

The idea for making these birds came to me during a recent spell of particularly gloomy, grey, wet weather. I imagine birds like these soaring in a bright blue sky with the sun on their backs.
Strung with pretty ribbon, I’ve made my flowery birds to hang against a wall, the back is plain and unglazed, stamped with my makers mark.
I’ve made multiple birds, each one handmade by me, so they vary very slightly, you may not receive the exact bird shown in the pics. They measure approx 13.5cm from beak to tail.
Available in other colours too, please see my other listings.
To make these birds, I roll out a clay slab, cut out the bird shape, then apply flowery paper stencils I’ve cut from paper with my tiny scissors. I then paint a coloured slip (in this case a muted pink) over the bird before peeling the paper away to reveal the flowery outline, which I then score into with a needle to add the extra details and the birds face. The bird is then left to dry, before its first kiln firing, then I apply an underglaze wash to bring out all the texture, glaze and fire again, then string with ribbon for hanging.
