Full description

These swivel backed sterling silver cufflinks feature rounds of sparkly fordite simply bezel set to allow the swirly pattern to stand out. The fordite has a tight stripes of white, silver, red and black which spread out into a more abstract pattern at one end, several of the colours are metallic and sparkle when the light catches them. The two pieces were cut from the same rough so the colours match but the patterns don't due to the way the material forms. These would make a great gift for the gent who like unusual cufflinks or loves his cars. Measures 18mm diameter and 4mm deep with standard sterling silver swivel backs for ease of use. Comes gift boxed.

Not come across fordite before? It is the name given to paint build up that forms in spray booths at car plants, with each car a new layer of paint is added getting cured hard after each one. When the build up gets to a certain thickness it has to be removed and lapidarists discovered that it could be cut and polished to show off the multitude of colours. I believe this material came from GM's factory, Orion Assembly but I haven't managed to match it to a specific year or model due to the limited colour palette. I cut and polish this material myself and have quite a stash from a range of years and factories so if you like the idea of fordite but these aren't quite right drop me a message I might be able to help.
