Human beings have been working with clay for millennia, enjoying the rhythmic action of simply using hands and simple wooden tools to produce bowls. That’s why I enjoy making by hand, without using a potter’s wheel – to re-establish that link with the earliest potters. I use black stoneware clay, and like to leave the outside unglazed to show off that earth connection.

Full description
A decorative handmade pottery bowl, perfect for adding a distinctive, eye-catching, stylish look to your home. I made it entirely by hand, pressing and shaping, then making a whirlpool like texture on the inside by sweeping my fingertips over the soft black clay surface. I added a little footring in plain black clay on the bottom, with an impressed seal of my potter’s mark – a swallow in flight. You could use it to show off fresh fruit (I’ve shown tangerines) or fill with pot pourri, pebbles or seashells. The exterior finish is the natural matt black of the clay itself, with a dappled very pale green decoration, while the inside has toning dark greens and browns in a muted satin finish. It’s intended for display purposes and is not suitable for cooking, or food use because of the natural finish of the exterior. Size is approx. 20cm diameter at the top x 8.5cm across the footring and 10cm high.
