Mother of Pearl is the name given to the lining or nacre of mollusc shells.
It is a unique combination of minerals secreted by molluscs such as oysters into thin platelets of calcium carbonate that have a width similar to light waves, which gives the nacre an iridescent, shimmering sheen.
Like Pearl, it is a birthstone for June and a popular choice for wedding jewellery.

Dainty and beautiful stretch bracelet featuring an 8x4mm Mother-of-Pearl focal bead in the shape of a rose, set between Mother-of-Pearl 8mm barrel beads and 4mm round beads.
The rose is exquisitely detailed on both sides of the bead, has a delicate, creamy white colour and excellent lustre, matched by the oval and round beads.
I have embellished with a few tiny gold vermeil beads and a single gold vermeil stardust rondelle, which enhance the sheen without detracting from the purity and simplicity of the piece.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a thick 18k gold plate - a much higher quality material, with greater durability, than standard gold-plated metal.
This delicate piece would make a lovely handmade gift for an anniversary, birthday, wedding, bridesmaid - or as a treat for yourself.
This delicate bracelet measures approximately 6.75 inches (17cm), which is perfect for a 6-6.25 inch wrist. I am able to resize on request - contact me via the 'contact' button below my shop banner.
