I learnt the Japanese language at high school and have been fascinated by their history and culture ever since! This fabric range by the UK fabric house Makower is called Hikari - which means light or ray in Japanese. It is also used as a unisex name in Japan.
To the Japanese this flower symbolises royalty (it’s the royal family’s emblem), longevity (sun and light) and rejuvenation.
I just love flowers and this chrysanthemum fabric is so pretty, especially with the gold metallic line art finish to it! I've also made matching earrings and a brooch - will be available in my shop soon!

Bright yellow chrysanthemums growing en masse in a beautiful garden – this amazing statement necklace conjures Japanese flowers at their best!
Created from sumptuous high quality 100% cotton fabric and features chrysanthemums in an all-over pattern of golden yellows and white with pink centres on a deep ochre yellow background. All the line art has been printed with stunning gold metallic – so this fabric just shimmers!
For this necklace, I’ve selected a section of yellow chrysanthemums and one white flower at the centre for impact.
A special fabric coating medium was added to secure and seal this Japanese inspired necklace to a semi-circular FSC approved plywood shape.
I've left the back of the necklace showing the natural colour and grain of the wood, but simply adding a layer of varnish.
Teamed with antique bronze plated oval trace chain & matching 12mm lobster clasp
Length 22 inches, is adjustable – can be changed to your preferred length if required
Chain is nickel, cadmium and lead free
Wooden necklace measures 8cm wide by 4cm deep
Comes carefully packaged in eco-cotton drawstring bag on eco-kraft card with branded logo
