There is some controversy over what kind of stone Kambaba Jasper actual is.
Due to its appearance, some believe it to be a form of fossilised algae called stromatolite.
However analysis by the EPI, the German institute for gemstone testing, places it as volcanic in origin, which means it cannot be a fossil as these occur in sedimentary rocks rather than volcanic.
Whatever its origin, once polished it is a truly beautiful and unique stone.
A deep, forest green, with overtones of sage, and black swirls that create strange and wonderful patterns, and occasionally orbs known as 'eyes'.

This striking necklace features a pendant made from a 13x18mm oval Kambaba Jasper stone topped with a trio of Swarovski crystals, set between two more Kambaba Jasper ovals, each bracket by trios of Swarovski crystals.
I have used 5mm Swarovski clear bicones and 4mm 'crystal copper' bicones, highlighted with tiny 2mm sterling silver spacers, to add a dash of sparkle, colour and shine amongst the dark green Jasper.
The Kambaba Jasper ovals are a beautiful forest green with swirls of lighter green, tan and black, forming intricate patterns.
The patterns are different on each side, and each stone is unique, making this a very special piece of jewellery.
The necklace graduates to 6mm and 4mm Kambaba Jasper round beads, dotted with more Swarovski crystals, and fastens with a Tibetan silver toggle clasp in the shape of a snake.
The clasp is nickel and lead free.
This one-of-a-kind necklace measure approximately 16.5 inches (42cm), excluding the pendant.
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty gift bag.
Price includes delivery within the UK.
