I have long admired the forms of the various bottles that come through our house and have wanted to light them up somehow – but differently! The idea of fluorescent dye and UV light came to me when I saw an old sun lamp for sale…

BwaaHaaHaaHaaa... The mad scientist’s radioactive compounds glow an eerie yellow green and blue in the dark!
It’s not really radioactive, the reclaimed beech plinth conceals a 4-watt blacklight bulb that radiates UV light through cutouts in the wood into the repurposed spirit bottles which are filled with tap water tinted with a few drops of ultraviolet sensitive fluorescing dye. The effect, however, is magical in a darkened room!
1.5 metres of black twisted braided flex fitted with a black inline switch and black British Standard plug supply the ES fitting and UV bulb in the base to complete this one of a kind spooky ensemble.
Please note; the bottles stand on top of the base and are not fixed in place, the makers of the UV dye say that although non-toxic, the dye should not be taken internally (there are just 9 drops in each bottle) and you should avoid looking directly at the UV blacklight for prolonged periods. For these reasons, I do not recommend this lamp for children to use unsupervised.
