Full description
These eye catching earrings feature drops of fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver. The fordite was cut from the same piece of rough so the colours match but the pattern doesn't, one earring has a sweep of sparkly dark red and matt bright red with finer stripes of yellow, grey and white. The other has broad stripes of white and grey with the red and yellow confined to one corner (it also has stripes of sparkly navy and dark grey at the top). The earrings measure approx 48mm from the top of the hook to the bottom by 18mm across and are finished with simple hooks (sterling silver). The fordite was quite thin so it has been stabilised at the back for strength but this makes the earrings particularly lightweight. Comes in a gift box.
Fordite is the name given to many layers of cured car paint that builds up in spray booths at car factories. The paint gets baked hard in between each layer leading to a durable material that can be cut to show off the many colours. I cut and polish the fordite myself and this particular material I bought from a guy who worked at Ford's Wayne Assembly plant, he had collected it from the production line between 2016 - 2018 (I think they were doing C-max and Focus at that time). I have quite a stash of rough from various eras and manufacturers so if you love fordite but want something else making drop me a message.
