Aquamarine, named from the Latin for seawater, is the pale blue-to-blue-green member of the beryl family.
In folklore it is linked to the sea, and sacred to the sea-god Neptune.
It was believed to calm the waves and bring protection and good luck to sailors and fishermen.
Aquamarine represented not only the sea, but also the heavens since the sky reflected in the water. It was believed that this reflective property could reveal hidden aspects of reality and things deep within our souls. This made aquamarine a popular stone with healers, shamans and mystics.
Aquamarine is the birthstone for March and Pisces, and the stone for the 19th wedding anniversary.

This dainty necklace has a centrepiece of three 6mm faceted AAA grade Kyanite coin beads, bracketed on either side by a 2.5mm sterling silver round, 6mm natural Aquamarine bead and a pair of 3.5mm, micro-faceted AA grade Aquamarine beads.
The Aquamarine beads are semi-opaque, with a soft, light blue colour.
The Kyanite is semi-transparent and a more intense green-blue with the typical almost fibrous appearance of this stone.
Kyanite rarely exhibits a single shade of colour, and if you look into the stone, it appears to have streaks of deeper colour within it, giving a dramatic effect.
The necklace continues on each side with a pair of 15x2mm sterling silver tubes that surround a central trio of 'aquamarine' blue Swarovski bicones, bracketed by 2.5mm sterling silver spacers and a trio of AA micro-faceted Aquamarine beads.
Beyond this are a further row of faceted Aquamarine, and three rows of 3.5mm smooth Aquamarine beads, each row separated by a sterling tiny silver spacer.
The necklace fastens with a Tibetan style silver toggle clasp in the shape of a snake, which in the Chinese Zodiac symbolises wisdom and charm.
The clasp is nickel and lead free.
This sparkly necklace measures approximately 16.5 inches (42 cm).
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
Price includes delivery within the UK.
