A sister pattern to the Soft-Hearted Hat and Cowl (available separately), Heartwood is named after the innermost part of a tree's trunk: the tree's strong core. It features subtle tree motifs that grow out of the brim upwards to the crown, and can be embellished to create a winter or Christmas scene, if wished.
Heartwood is a lightweight but cosy accessory, combining single-round stripes in garter stitch with slipped stitches and a small amount of lace. This patterning creates a gorgeously satisfying texture, which grows upwards, making it an interesting and intuitive knit.

Knitted in the round from the bottom up, the Heartwood Hat can be easily customised to your taste - embellishments added after knitting can make the hat into a subtle Christmas knit or keep it plain for a more refined look.
The pattern includes 3 sizes to fit a head circumference of between 51 - 61cm / 20 - 24” (teen - large adult). It also contains charts (with written equivalent instructions), a video tutorial for the optional embellishments, photographs, a schematic and has been professionally technically edited.
