There is some controversy over what kind of stone Kambaba Jasper actual is.
Due to its appearance, some believe it to be a form of fossilised algae called stromatolite.
However analysis by the EPI, the German institute for gemstone testing, places it as volcanic in origin, which means it cannot be a fossil as these occur in sedimentary rocks rather than volcanic.
Whatever its origin, once polished it is a truly beautiful and unique stone.
A deep, forest green, with overtones of sage, and black swirls that create strange and wonderful patterns, and occasionally orbs known as 'eyes'.

Gorgeous necklace featuring five polished, 13x18mm oval Kambaba Jasper stones separated by six sparkly 6mm Swarovski 'erinite' crystals.
Each crystal is highlighted with 2.5mm gold vermeil beads.
The Kambaba Jasper ovals are a beautiful forest green with swirls of lighter green, tan and black, forming intricate patterns.
The patterns are different on each side, and each stone is unique, making this a very special piece of jewellery.
The necklace graduates to 6mm and 4mm Kambaba Jasper round beads, dotted with more gold vermeil, and fastens with a rose shaped Tibetan trigger clasp with an antique gold finish.
The clasp is nickel and lead free.
This striking necklace measure approximately 16 inches (41cm).
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
