Rock Crystal is the transparent and colourless form of Quartz, sometimes called 'white' or 'snow' quartz.
This is the material that made the original 'crystal balls', and clear quartz is still associated with mystical properties.
The term 'Rock Crystal' comes from the Greek krustallos, meaning ice crystal, as it was thought that Quartz was ice that was frozen so solidly it couldn't melt.
Rock Crystal is an alternative birthstone to Diamond for April and Aries.

Dainty flower earrings made from carved Rock Crystal (white Quartz).
These pretty quartz beads are carved in the shape of a flower trumpet and have a matt finish.
I have added a 4mm 'scarlet' Swarovski crystal bicone to the gold vermeil wire before threading on the Rock crystal, giving the appearance of a stamen inside the trumpet.
The bead hangs from gold vermeil ear-wires.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with gold, and the wires are stamped '925'.
These earrings measure approximately 1 inch (2.5cm), excluding the wires.
Presented in a small organza gift bag.
