Black spinel is very durable and has high reflectance, making it an excellent stone for jewellery.
The AAA quality faceted coins I have used here are just beautiful, so shiny and sparkly that it is easy to understand why black spinel was often mistaken for black diamond.
Spinel is the birthstone for August.

Full description
A 6mm black obsidian round is topped with a 6mm x 4mm barrel-shaped red bamboo coral bead and two super-shiny, faceted AAA black spinel coins set either side of a sparkly Swarovski bicone in the colour "golden shadow".
The ear-wires are of gold vermeil.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with gold.
These earrings measure approximately 1 inch (2.5cm) excluding the wires.
Presented in a small organza gift bag.
