Amethyst is the birthstone for Aquarius and February, and the stone for the 6th and 33rd wedding anniversary.
It is also associated with St Valentine, who arranged marriages for young soldiers at a time when such marriages had been outlawed by Emperor Claudius II, who believed unwed men made better warriors.
It is said that Valentine wore an Amethyst ring engraved with a cupid so that the soldiers could recognise him.
Valentine was martyred on the 14th February 269, and canonised in 496.

Full description
These sparkly earrings are comprised of a 6mm amethyst, two 4mm mother-of-pearl and a pair of Swarovski crystal beads in a colour called "light amethyst".
The amethyst beads are a translucent purple with swirls of milky inclusions, the Swarovski crystals are a slightly lighter shade and catch the light beautifully, while the mother-of-pearl beads are a lovely creamy-white colour with a soft, lustrous sheen.
They hang from gold vermeil ear-wires.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with gold, and the wires are stamped "925".
These earrings measure approximately 1 inch (2.5cm).
Presented in a small organza gift bag.
