I was making a few more of the rustic pine tea light caddy's - boxes...and was wondering what other finish I could do them in. I thought about blue stain and to rough sand them afterwards, which can look effective in some way but to be sure, I wanted to see a pic of blue finished items.
And so it was through the internet that I discovered what some were doing, using this Japanese technique.
Not only is it effective (when done the right way) but also a whole load of fun.

Full description

Yakisugi (Shou Sugi Ban) style Pine wooden box with push on pull off lid with copper tealight holder. Using old traditional Japanese art techniques. This attractive tealight caddy may feel a bit rough but it can certainly look the part on any dining table, mantle piece or window sill. It can hold many tealights inside, that amount is down to the stacker. Would make quite a good after dinner game or puzzle. The box is finished burned style with a Royal blue stain and a clear wax finish. The effects are quite an eye catcher.

The size of these are roughly 4"x4" and stand 4 1/4" tall. Or if you like 10cm x 10cm x 11cm.

The boxes will be shipped with 5 tea lights inside, just to get you started right away.

Some work was required to get the finish needed, using a very old method of preserving wood by scorching it, then using a steel brush staining is the after thought to bring to it some really interesting color and texture.
