Handmade in Scotland, Soay is a keepsake box, perfect for keeping jewellery items safe on a bedside table, as a unique and original gift, or simply a place to store your watch overnight.
The main body of the box outer is made of a pure wool furnishing fabric offcut in a soft purple.
The lid is a landscape inspired by the Scottish countryside, and is made from a handmade textile based on offcuts of harris tweed, which have been needle felted together. Wool yarn, needlefelting and machine embroidery have been used to build up texture and depth. A needlefelted sheep rests on the scrubby grass, legs tucked up under him. Eyes and horns have been hand embroidered in black cotton thread.
The box is fully lined in wool felt in a co-ordinating soft lilac colour. A recycled purple button has been securely stitched to the front and is used with a loop of contrasting thread to close this treasure box.
The handmade nature of this item means it has a rustic, raw edge look, with pokey out threads and fuzzy edges. This is entirely deliberate and is not a fault. Please ensure you are happy with the finish by checking the photographs carefully before you purchase.
This is a functional item but is not meant to withstand rough handling, so should be kept away from children and animals. The inner construction gives some rigidity, but it won’t survive being squashed. This box uses no plastic.
Approximately 6cm x 6cm x 6cm, although it’s not a perfect cube by any means.
