Full description

This unisex pendant features a rounded triangular piece of fordite which has been smoothly bezel set in sterling silver (its a strangely satisfying shape to hold). The front of the pendant has sweeping lines in shades of red, white and blue with a little green and sparkly grey. The pendant has an open back setting meaning it could be worn either way round but the back shows the hard life the fordite had when it was smashed off the spray booth (there is a photo of the back). The shape and colour palette are unisex so it could be worn by anyone who likes the unusual (or trucks). Measures 41mm top to bottom (inc generous bail) and 32mm wide. Comes with an 18 in silver chain in a gift box (you could easily put it on a different chain or thong).

Fordite is layers of cured paint that built up in the old spray booths at vehicle plants, the panels would be placed on rails to be sprayed and paint would build up on the rails getting cured after each coat. The guy I bought the rough material from worked at the Kenworth plant in Chillicothe USA. Kenworth make cabs for big 18 wheel trucks often with custom paint colours hence the range in this piece. Changes in how vehicles are painted mean that fordite is only formed in small quantites now and it is becoming increasingly difficult to source. You can see the rough in some of the photos - its the white thing and isn't included in the sale - if you like the colour palette but would prefer something else drop me a message.
