A wartime reminiscence sparked the idea for this vintage inspired brooch together with my observations of wild flowers on my daily dog walk.

Full description

This a variation on the traditional Dorset cross wheel button that I usually make. The design was strongly influenced by a war time memory of my mother who said that they used to make something similar to brighten an outfit in austere times.

The design of this brooch is one of a collection inspired by British wild flowers, in this case blackthorn blossom.

It is worked on a metal ring and measures 3.2 cm across. The ring is covered in a dark brown cotton thread and the blossoms are worked in French knots in cream with a few in pale yellow. The second image shows colours best.

The brooch fastens with a simple brooch pin that has been securely attached to the reverse.
