How amazing are hydrangea? They are like little round, flowery cushions and I like the branch structure of a mini tree underneath the head. I chose the round pottery vase as a similar shape to the hydrangea heads and I had fun picking out the delicate unopened flowers making up the central area of the hydrangea. All my paintings start with a sketch and I have several versions of these, both in full bloom and equally lovely, as they are dying off.

Full description
Pink and white hydrangea sumptuously sitting in a pale blue pottery vase on a sun dappled wooden surface. The pin cushion detail of the hydrangea heads is picked out in a deeper pink.The background has a linen effect texture from gouache which is enhanced with brush strokes in pale blue cream and golden brown which continues around the sides. I painted this canvas in my Norfolk studio and it is ready for you to hang. This warm and pretty painting is looking for a place to live, and is 3rd in the sun dappled series. The canvas measures 40cms square. I call this one 'Hydrangea in Pottery Vase III'.
