This was designed as a commission, as a request simply, for a giraffe. This is what I designed and I liked it, or should I say her, so much I added it to my catalogue to sell here on Folksy.
When designing this, initially I quickly realised that you can't just have a giraffe 'body' on its own. As a full animal it would look just too gawky
(did a full horse just once - never done another for this reason - but I do lots of horseheads)
and also there is a big strength problem with all those thin bits - neck and legs.
That's why my giraffe is just head and neck and very friendly she is too.

This is a stained glass suncatcher handmade using the Tiffany copper foil technique.
A giraffe named Sophie. Ok not a normal name for a giraffe maybe but I made her so I get to choose the name.
I designed it by finding a picture of a happy looking giraffe, just neck upwards, traced it and then enclosed it in a medallion of blue, pretty textured glass, as an African safari sky.
The giraffe itself is made from my blotchiest giraffe coloured glass, lots of streaks and smudges. Eyes are pretty flower beads which make the giraffe smile and hopefully, also, anyone looking at it.
This is 15cm x 11cm. I've framed it with twisted wire to make it strong and it hangs from two points on the top with a silvery chain.
This item is absolutely unique. I never make two pieces exactly the same, I always use slightly different colours and textures of glass. This is just the 11th I have made of this design.
