I AM UPDATING PRODUCT BOXES FOR JEWELLERY AND DECORATIONS WHICH WILL TAKE AWHILE, IF YOU PURCHASE YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR ORDER IN THE NEW BOXES AS DESCRIBED BELOW.
Jewellery boxes are made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Jewellery box inserts are made from tall oil, a by-product of wood pulp industry. All paper, card, glue, inks and delivery boxes used are made from recycled materials.
I love collecting, especially things that have been discarded. Anything that looks lost, forgotten or damaged and not wanted any more. Favourite places of mine to discover bits is rivers or beaches. I am lucky to live near the River Tees, Co Durham and often walk the banks picking up broken glass, pottery anything that can be cleaned and re-created into something new. Another amazing place is recycling centres where for very little I can rescue an old pot or plate. Charity shops have so many interesting pieces, bits and bobs of lives all waiting to find new homes.
I bought the decorative plate set used to create these earrings from a charity shop in Bishop Auckland, Co Durham. After creating shards from the plates I now have a lot of material to inspire more jewellery. I never know what I’ll make until I start the process of creating shards, from then on the experience is totally creative and exciting.

Additional terms
Hand crafted Jewellery and framed artworks using pre loved and discarded ceramics. Ceramic material will show signs of wear. Entire process is a creative experience from discovery to final picture, nothing planned or preconceived. All materials personally collected from river banks, charity shops, roadside, woods, recycle centres, beaches, wherever dropped, dumped or donated ceramics are found, cleaned and shaped into new stories. Each titled piece comes with bio of where the ceramic came from, known history, original information and when the artwork was created. Some ceramics collected are used as found, while others are cut randomly which will shape the final picture. Every piece is individual, nothing replicated, however, due to repetitive patterns in ceramics there will be some similarity but only through the ceramic material not in the final piece.
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
Full description
Sterling Silver Earring Studs made from a broken ceramic plate.
Created from ceramic plate discovered July 2020
Re-Created into earrings December 2020
In July 2020 I found a small decorative plate set which was damaged and destined for recycling. I love collecting and immediately saw how attractive the pattern appeared with strong rich blues. The plates were chipped and cracked badly so I thought the process of creating shards for any project might completely destroy any pattern.
I gently clipped the edges with a small tile cutter, random shapes formed into varying pieces. Luckily the plates broke in a manner where a lot of the pattern survived. Every shard is different but sometimes fragments develop in a way that suggests pairs.
Two blue flowers remained in tact on separate shards, the flowers are similar but not the same. This ceramic is hard and difficult to work with, however, after a couple of hours sanding the earrings began to take form.
The final shape isn’t perfect or identical, sometimes I will continue to sand until a smooth mirror image is created but these two flowers just looked more interesting as the shape they are. Both earrings are 14mm x 10mm x3mm.
These earrings are unique, completely one of a kind, although I will be using the rest of the ceramic plate material for other jewellery or art projects I will not create another pair of earrings using the blue flowers from these plates.
