Full description

Framed group of four porcelain rays.

The four rays pictured in this frame have been left unglazed showing the brilliant white porcelain in a matte finish. They have been mounted to high quality UK made thick card in a rich cobalt blue and then put into a wood effect box frame.

Frame size: 25cm x 25cm x 4.5cm

Rays: approx. 8cm wide x 9cm long

Made using a slip cast technique where liquid porcelain is poured into homemade moulds. Once removed from the mould they are altered to make each ray individual. Each 'wing' is ever so slightly different, raised/dipped or flicked up at the tips to represent the movements they make under water.

The height of each of the rays is altered during mounting to allow them to overlap. This gives a 3-dimensional feel to the fish and casts interesting shadows as the lighting changes. It also allows for a greater combination of layouts giving the feeling that the rays are schooling.

The frame is a simple wood effect box frame 4.5cm deep. it has a single hook on the back which can be used to hang it on the wall. The frame is deep enough that it can be sat vertically upright on a shelf.
