This freeform pendant features a highly polished piece of vintage fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver. The fordite has a pattern of concentric rings in shades of brown, yellow and red with a couple of turquoise blue ones for extra interest. The colour palette and freeform (roughly triangular) shape make this piece particularly unisex and a great gift for any car lover. Measures approx 48mm inc bail by 17mm wide, comes with a sterling silver snake chain in a gift box but if you would prefer a brown or black leather cord instead then drop me a message.
Fordite is the name given to the baked build up of paint that formed in the old style spray booths at car factories. As fashions changed so did the colours in fordite and by comparing to old paint charts it is possible to work out the date and factory that fordite has come from. I believe that this material came from a Dodge/ Plymouth factory in 1978 - the bright yellow and turquoise are more unusual shades. As painting techniques have improved less fordite is being formed and vintage material is becoming harder to find. I cut a lot of my fordite myself so if you love the idea of it but want something else making then drop me a message.
