I've always been interested in the many and varied knitting designs connected to our maritime history and have wanted to design a blanket adapting some of these for some time. As I designed the blanket the weather warmed up and the coastal theme seemed just right.

Full description

This is a 10 page knitting PATTERN with instructions for three sizes of blanket: small 45cm x 60cm; medium 60cm x 75cm; large 75cm x 75cm.

Many knitters tell me they find knitting with several shades difficult so I designed this blanket in one shade using 13 different textured designs, some derived from traditional fishermens' ganseys and Aran sweaters and some my own designs, although some of the squares or the edging could be knitted in different shades.

The pattern instructions are for the blankets as they appear in the images in the pattern, but the squares could be re-arranged as desired. The squares can be knitted in strips, bottom to top then sewn together vertically. The edging is sewn on last. The 6 textured squares from my Seaside blanket are repeated here. I use a cotton yarn partly because it is robust and easily washable and partly because the stitch definition is so good.

Materials required: 1 pair 3.25mm knitting needles, a cable needle.

Rowan Cotton Glace 100% cotton small blanket: 5 x 50g balls; medium blanket 8 x 50g balls; large blanket 10 x 50g balls.

The PDF file will be sent to you as an attachment to an email. I aim to reply within 48 hours. If you would prefer a printed copy, please message me.
