I was working as a Design and Technology teacher & in the school holidays I have always enjoyed making my own artefacts, as I love making things and learning new techniques and skills that I can share with the kids at the school. I cut some letter "E" 's out of veneer on the laser at school, for a kid to use in her GCSE project and afterwards I used the spare pieces to make a Jewellery box, as I hate wasting things.... (I saved them from the bin ...somewhere a girl has a bigger version with different colours of veneer, quite a few split and went into the bin as she was making her box, these are the spare intact that were left over). The thing I was looking at was using Mitre joints and using a router table to insert Keys, for decoration and strength. It was made in my Shed at home, using reclaimed woods from old drawers and furniture, mahogany and beech I believe. I think the lid is MDF under the veneer. The main part of the box uses a comb joint that I cut by hand.
