This necklace is a one-off from me. The pretty little white rice pearls came into my possession in a broken necklace a long time ago. Although I don’t know its provenance, it must have been a very special piece of jewellery to someone once upon a time. I don’t have, and am unlikely to get, any more pearls like this. I have restrung them on high performance nylon with brand new sterling silver fittings (tiny beads, French wire, end bars, a trigger clasp and a pretty extension chain with a star detail) to make this lovely classic stranded necklace.
Each little pearl is around 5mm long and 3mm wide, about the size of a grain of rice. They are uneven in shape but all roughly elliptical. A few have flawed surfaces, possibly from contact with perfume in the past, but most are of good lustre. The shortest strand is 46cms (18ins) long excluding the extension chain and 50cms (20ins) long when it is fully deployed. The longest strand is about 60cms (24ins) without the extension chain and 64cms (25 ins) including it.
Such necklaces are usually priced considerably more highly than this one. But because the pearls are repurposed and cost me nothing, the costing is only for the thread and components plus, as always, enough for me to make a small donation to charity.
It will be sent wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and posted in a sturdy cardboard box for safe travel.
