Moss Agate is a variety of Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family.
It is generally included in the Agate family despite not being banded.
Moss agate is a beautiful sage-green stone, translucent or milky, with inclusions of iron or manganese, that look like tendrils of lichen or moss, giving the green colour.
It is thought to bring the wearer closer to nature, aiding with emotional balance, courage and tranquility.
Medieval farmers believed wearing it in the fields would improve the crop, and midwives wore it to radiate courage and relief to the mothers they were helping.
Native Americans believed it would bring rain when needed and Tribal priests would fashion amulets for warriors to bring courage, protection and prowess in battle.

Dainty bracelet made from 4mm green Moss Agate beads dotted with 4mm crystal bicones, sterling silver spacers and a single 6mm Tibetan silver filigree bead
The beads show the typical attributes of Moss Agate, semi-translucent to semi-opaque, marbled appearance ranging in hue from light sage to deep forest green, and with varying degrees of dendritic inclusions - the green tendrils that give this stone its name.
No two stones are the same, making this a truly unique piece of jewellery.
Quality Austrian crystal bicones in the colour 'light rose', highlighted with tiny 1.8mm sterling silver beads, add sparkle and shine to the piece.
The 6mm Tibetan silver filigree bead is nickel and lead free.
Moss Agate is believed to enhance tranquility and emotional balance.
Handmade in my home workshop, here in beautiful Devon, UK, this would make a lovely gift for a birthday, anniversary, mother's day, or keep it as a treat for yourself.
This pretty stretch bracelet measures approximately 7 inches (17.5cm).
Your bracelet will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a small organza gift bag.
