The beach had been quite crowded that day, even though it was somewhat overcast. I could hear something of a commotion behind me and the crowds and their dogs were parting to let through the horses. As I let them go on ahead of me eventually other beachwalkers cleared the shot and I was able to get this well lined up composition of the three horses, their riders, and the sea stretching out before us all.

On a cold Spring day at Irvine Beach, as the sea, trees and skylines combined to show variations on a colour scheme, three horse riders took their charges for a play in the surf.
