Welcome to my birding world of life-like wool-sculpted birds, where no detail is too small or feather too tiny for me to notice and recreate in fibre.

I add finished birds to Folksy and hope you can find the species or size of bird you are looking for. If not, reach out to see if I can make your choice of bird for when you might need it.

If I can help, I will want to.

I am not alone in being fascinated by Wrens. They are so tiny and just so loud when they call and sing. When I read Susan Cooper’s ’The Dark is Rising’ 1970’s brilliant book, I was so moved by the Hunting of the Wren tradition, where a tiny wren is carried on a bier and paraded by young children to bring back the spring. I am going to make that diorama at some point. However, this tiny wren is very much alive, fluffed up against the cold and peering curiously about, braving the snow in his own for hunt for food.

Safety information

Glass bell jar must be handled with care to avoid breakage. The cork base is not permanently attached to the glass top section and should only be separated with great care. If separated only gentle pressure should be applied to reattach the bell jar to the cork. The tiny bird and any botanical elements are permanently attached to their plinth and will contain wool and plant fibre products and wire which may be sharp if handled roughly.

Full description

One-of-a-kind hand-made needlefelt wool winter Eurasian Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) standing on sparkly woollen snow in their own tiny hanging glass bell jar with a cork stopper and pretty ribbon.

Perfect in every detail, this miniature bird is found in folklore around winter in many different guises, measures just under 3cms long and 2cms tall, stands on tiny wire legs with teeny claws, a minute woollen beady eye and beak, and glorious individually crafted flight feathers. Scaled to 1:4 of life-size, this wren fits easily inside the 11cm height by 6cm diameter glass bell jar with integral hanging hook, which comes ready to hang with its own colourful hanging ribbon, can sit securely on a shelf or hang from a hook or indoor plant.

All the birds in this 1:4 scale winter bell-jar range are to scale against each other, and made to hang perfectly together as a set which would look just stunning in the same display.

Each miniature bird in its bell jar comes securely enclosed in a beautiful high-quality gift box tied with a bow, snuggled in tissue paper and with a signed Mindful Felting tag to authenticate it as one of my own bespoke bird creations.

UK postage is offered for free using Royal Mail Tracked 48.

My birds are unique art works to last a life-time and to delight and inspire adult folks, young and old, through the natural world. They are not toys and are not intended for children, due to the delicate nature of the materials used.
