Full description

"FLORILEGIUM" (The word is from the Latin flos (flower) and legere (to gather): literally a gathering of flowers).

This section of my hand painted jewellery is deeply influenced by my love of gardening and walks in the surrounding countryside.

I live in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where the Victorian Poet Laureate, Lord Alfred Tennyson was born. It is said that the Wolds had a great influence on his works, and so I thought, what better than to name my new large flower earrings after some of his poems and the countryside I love.

"The Lady of Shalott"

In the stormy east-wind straining,

The pale yellow woods were waning,

The broad stream in his banks complaining,

Heavily the low sky raining

Over tower'd Camelot;

Outside the isle a shallow boat

Beneath a willow lay afloat,

Below the carven stern she wrote,

The Lady of Shalott.

I remember first hearing this Tennyson poem at school, and it has remained one of my favourites.

These beautiful earrings are my large bellflowers, hand painted in my usual unique style, with greens overlaid with wild plum and touches of gold. Bronze bead caps sit inside the flowers surrounding Swarovski crystal rounds and bicones in matching colours. The bead caps are repeated above the flowers with two others, and a repeat of the crystal bicones. They are shown with brass hooks, but you may choose your desired ear wires from the drop-down menu.
