I have always been drawn to rocks , stones pebbles etc. Overtime I would bring home various pieces .My house is akin to the geological section of the British natural museum!! Then I did a have a go carving course in the Purbecks, loved it. Further to that I signed up to a six week carving course amongst who was the quarry manager and hence I ended up with a lot more stone. I came up with the idea to make some lamps as gifts. Which I have done but I have some rock left over so here I am on Folksy.

Full description

This lampbase is made of Marnhill Stone from Dorset and has a height of 22cm with a width and depth 10cm.The stone is from Corallian group of limestone laid down in the Jurassic period. So it is to be expected that the colour, fossil content and texture will vary as this is a natural product. I was going to carve reliefs on at least one side but on seeing the variations in fossil contents within the stone I decided it was better to bring that out .Therefore I sand, sand and sand again until its nice and smooth. Then I seal it with acrylic sealer and polish off revealing the fossils. I enjoy visiting the quarry to collect my stone, chatting to the knowledgably manager and seeing the rocks and all their variations. There are two rings so its suitable for a lampshade or industrial type bulb , large Edison screw type .Note LAMPSHADE AND BULB NOT INCLUDED
