Full description
This listing is for a pair of Japanese Koma, a square edged wooden spool used in Japanese and other Oriental embroidery for holding thread under the correct tension. Commonly used for metallic thread that is not stitched in or for beads.
These Koma are made to order from close-grained hardwoods such as cherry, maple and beech (the photos are cherry wood). Handmade in my workshop in the West Pennine Moors of Lancashire, I specialise in making rare and unusual tools for embroidery and other crafts. If you need a variation of this Koma for your specific work, let me know your requirements and I can alter the design.
The 3 woods on the photo are from left - Cherry, Beech and Maple.
I offer 3 different sizes depending on your needs, please see the photo. All sizes are approximate and if you are not sure which size to choose, B is by far the most popular and multi-purpose.
Size A 56mm long, 25mm to 30mm square narrowing to approx 12 to 15mm in the centre with a narrowed area of 30mm length
Size B 66mm long, 25mm to 30mm square narrowing to approx 12 to 15mm in the centre with a narrowed area of 40mm length Most Popular
