Spoon rings are believed to have originated in the 17th century. Servants working in big houses sometimes stole a silver spoon to make a wedding ring. Such a crime could result in seven years of imprisonment overseas so was considered a sign of true love and devotion. Nowadays, silver spoons are often found in antique centres and are bought up by dealers who have them melted down as scrap. By turning some into silver rings, I feel as though I am saving a little bit of our heritage and hopefully the designs will live on for many more years.

Ring 77

This is a lovely little ring made from a demitasse coffee spoon.

The original spoon was made by Thomas Bradbury and Sons Limited of Arundel Gate, Sheffield and was first hallmarked in 1931 or 1932.

The bowl of the spoon has been flattened and the handle wrapped around to form the ring, The original hallmark can be seen on the inside of the band and the new hallmark signifying the change of use is on the underside of the flattened bowl.

My rings are a wraparound design which means there is a little give in the sizes. If you are interested in having a ring in a slightly different size, please get in touch, as I may have one available or may be able to adjust it for you. With all my rings, once it arrives, if you have any issues with the size, please get in touch.
