Given the nature of the materials and the processes I must use I regard the making of my items as a collaboration. I decorate the piece by drawing a steel point through the red hot, molten enamel. I know how I would like to decorate the piece. I know that I have a short window of opportunity to achieve this. At first I need a temperature at which the enamel becomes workable. Then as the temperature of the piece drops I need to stop working before the material sets around the point of the tool. I get what I am allowed and I am constantly surprised by it.

Full description

After building a base of clear enamel over the copper bowl I added a layer of white. The speckled effect you see around the rim of the bowl is the copper base showing through the white layer. I have ten applied scatterings of turquoise and dark pink enamel and created the decoration of the bowl by drawing a steel tip through the molten enamel while it was a t red hot, in the kiln.

The bowl is 74mm in diameter and 20mm deep. You might use it as a dressing table tray or a table centrepiece. Among other uses, customers at fairs have suggested that my dishes and bowls may be just the thing to use to drop a tea bag on when you take it from your mug or cup or may make good soap dishes.

The bowl is counter-enamelled black with flecks of white on the reverse.

Your bowl will be sent by Royal Mail, first class, tracked at no added cost.
