Our shop is now closed for 2024 and we wish you a very happy Christmas. We are grateful for every order received this year and look forward to 2025. The sewing machine needs a service and we need a break, so we’ll see you soon.
Thanks for visiting our shop. You will find a variety of household items and gifts here, mostly with an Eco-focus - things that can be used and reused without costing the planet or emptying your wallet. We use up scraps, repurpose materials and prioritise natural new materials. We love colour and our products are attractive, environmentally friendly and useful. We don’t want to be preachy - just to make things that are a pleasure to use.
If you spot something you’d like in a different colour combination or other feature, drop us a message and ask - many things are possible.
If you want to know more about the people and environment behind this small business, follow us on social media.

Can I make an attractive home decoration from something that would otherwise be thrown away?

Saris, traditionally worn by women in India, Pakistan and other eastern countries, tend to be made from beautiful decorated fabrics. They are formed from a single length of fabric, often 3m or longer. One sari can be used for all sorts of up-cycling projects. At Wonky Towers, we love to upcycle and our preference is to avoid buying new. We have enjoyed using saris for our products.
This plant holder has been made using sewn strips of fabric from a pale pink and white sari. The sari fabric is decorated with little silver sparkles. To make this I have used sewn strips of fabric. Beginning with a wooden, re-purposed curtain ring, simple macrame and knotting techniques have been used to create the basket of the plant holder and it has been finished with a tassel. The photos help to show some of the details.
This plant holder measures approximately 85cm from the ring to the end of the fringe when laid straight. It is shown here holding a 12cm pot when it measures approximately 75cm from top to bottom. It would safely hold a bigger pot. This is a very attractive way to display a house plant, particularly one that trails.
NB. Plant and plant pot are not included.
If you like this up-cycled product, have a look at our reusable gift bags, many of which are also made from sari fabric.
Orders are usually sent using standard second class post unless you choose otherwise in the options. We often use clean, recycled packaging.
