This sweet little baby elephant having fun spraying water has been made entirely from glass which has been fused in my kiln.
Each piece of the elephant has been hand cut from a sheet of grey art glass, ground to a smooth finish and laid out on a piece of white glass. The toenails have been painted on with glass enamel, the eye and water droplets are little handmade beads of coloured glass. These are produced by cutting and stacking tiny squares of glass and fusing them to over 800°C, which causes them to 'ball up' and turn into perfect circles.
The fused panel has been set into a 20cm black box frame from which the original glass front has been removed so that the textured finish can be appreciated.
This would make a lovely piece for a child's room, perhaps as a christening or birthday gift. The frame has a hanger on the back so it can be either hung on the wall or sit on a shelf.
