PHOTOGRAPH. I took this picture in Florida at a car event; i was unfortunately unable to talk to the owner find out the date and generation of this vehicle with any certainty.

HISTORY. The GT40 was project sponsored by Ford from 1964-1969 to break the dominance of Ferrari in long distance racing which it successfully did in 1966 at the LeMans 24hour race with a second generation car managed by Carroll Shelby. The car was based on a Lola and the first three generations were produced in the Uk with only the last generation being produced in the USA. They featured a variety of V8 modified engines from 4.1litre up to 7litre which was in the winning team in 1966.

It was originally known as just the 'GT' but got the '40' as that was it height in inches.

(We photograph and design the illustrations we use on our products. Any trade marks, or names used are for descriptive purposes only and DO NOT imply any connection with the companies involved and we have no intention of impugning their brand.)
