This field is my favourite “square of Suffolk” – a walk I return to again and again. It is perfect for thinking and for learning to observe new details in a familiar space. This painting shows the minutes before I was absolutely soaked by the shelf of indigo clouds. It is a memory of peaceful apprehension.

This piece shows the view from a particular spot in a particular field – Suffolk clay studded with flint – as October storm clouds roll in from the west.
Semi-abstract ink and water painting, 19x24cm. Original painting, one-of-a-kind.
Painted on high-quality, cotton watercolour paper– the fibres have stained in a pleasing way, adding extra texture to this piece.
Unframed but hinge-mounted on backing and matting (20x25cm outside measurements), and protected with a clear envelope, making this painting suitable as a gift.
Designed by Francine Carrel in Bury St Edmunds
