NEW: Hand stitched Sami Reindeer and Fish leather bags and pouches.
Nalbinding has been done in many countries throughout the world, for thousands of years. Nalbinding pre-dates knitting and crochet and uses the simplest of tools. The yarn was singles spun on a hand carved drop spindle of wood or stone. The needle was hand-carved of wood or bone. The stitches are formed by wrapping the yarn around the thumb several times and then looped back on itself to create the stitches. The multiple repeats of yarn looping can create a multi-layered thick fabric. Nalbinding differs from knitting and crochet because it does not unravel easily. If it gets a hole in the fabric, the garment does not come apart, so the hole can easily be stitched back together.

Full description
This Nalbinding hat has been stitched using Natural Dark Grey Icelandic Wool.
Icelandic sheep have a coarse outer coat that helps to repel water and a warm, soft inner coat that provides excellent warmth and insulation against the cold.
Please note: Some may find that Icelandic wool is itchy. If so, please check some of my other Nalbinding hats.
Hat Size: Medium
Head Circumference: 65 cm
Height from Brim to Top of Crown: 21 cm
Yarn: Icelandic LettLopi
Colour: Dark Grey
Nalbinding Stitch: Finnish 2 plus 2
I design the hats to be slightly longer, so that you can wear it as a rolled brim, or pull it down over your ears on a cold day.
Wool hats will full and shrink a bit with use as the wool hat gently shapes and moulds to fit your head perfectly.
Please do not machine wash as wool can shrink a lot.
Hand Wash gently in cool water in your kitchen sink. Use a bit of Fairy liquid or other dish soap. Roll the hat in a towel to remove excess water and hang to dry.
