When our children were small (some forty years ago) we would give them a small gift at teatime on Christmas Eve. To make it more exciting we would put them in small drawstring bags, made from cotton remnants. These bags found many uses afterwards - as Scrabble bags, for marbles, pocket money, pieces of precious jewellery...

I have made these beautiful drawstring gift bags of high quality cotton quilting fabric from America. The material is white, with brightly coloured mosaic patterns of flowers being visited by humming birds. The largest bag measures 13" (34cm.) long by 8" (20cm.) wide and the three smaller ones are between 6" (15cm.) and 7" (18cm.) long by 5" (13cm.) wide. They are machine washable, and can be ironed and re-used
