Full description
This delightful beach themed bookmark has been made from a variety of fabrics and haberdashery scraps, and has then been free-motion embroidered. It features waves breaking onto a sandy beach under a partly cloudy sky, and is depicted in shades of blue, cream, white, brown and olive green. The sky is made from a lovely pale blue and cream print fabric. For the sea, I've used blue fabrics, fluffy yarn, two types of lace, and some fabric selvedge. The sand is made from golden cream fabric. The sea and sand features free-motion embroidered detailing. In the foreground of the beach, I've added a piece of hessian in front of some free motion embroidered olive green grass. I’ve also added a piece of cream twill ribbon to the top of the bookmark, on which I’ve hand-stamped the words “Beach life” in black ink (this has then been ironed to make it water-resistant). The bookmark is backed with pale blue upholstery fabric, stiffened with an inner layer of interfacing, and edged with zig-zag stitching in blue thread.
This delightful bookmark is an inexpensive way of owning a piece of textile art. It would make an ideal gift for anyone who loves reading and loves the sea.
