Full description
This seascape bookmark depicts waves breaking onto the shore of a sandy beach, under a partly cloudy sky. The design has been free-motion embroidered onto a background of fabric and haberdashery pieces. The colour palette includes shades of blue, cream, white, brown, beige and olive green. The sky is made from pale blue and cream variegated print fabric. The sea is made from blue fabrics, fluffy yarn, lace and fabric selvedge. The sand is made from golden cream fabric. The sea and sand features free-motion embroidered detailing. I've added two rocks in the sand, which are a combination of appliqué and free motion embroidery, and also some free-motion embroidered grasses. The bookmark is embellished with a piece of cream twill ribbon, on which I’ve hand-stamped the words “Beach life” in black ink (this has then been ironed to make it water-resistant). The bookmark is backed with pale blue upholstery fabric, stiffened with an inner layer of interfacing, and edged with zig-zag stitching in matching blue thread.
This bookmark is a miniature piece of original textile art. With its lovely seascape design, it would make an ideal gift for a reader who loves the sea.
