PLEASE NOTE

I AM UPDATING PRODUCT BOXES FOR JEWELLERY AND DECORATIONS WHICH WILL TAKE AWHILE, IF YOU PURCHASE YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR ORDER IN THE NEW BOXES AS DESCRIBED BELOW.

Jewellery boxes are made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Jewellery box inserts are made from tall oil, a by-product of wood pulp industry. All paper, card, glue, inks and delivery boxes used are made from recycled materials.

The idea is to create something new from old, found by chance, full of history and character. To present and deliver unique Eco Friendly gifts in Sustainable Packaging.

I love collecting ceramic discarded, lost, forgotten, damaged or just not wanted any more. Favourite places are rivers and beaches, but also find great things at recycling centres and charity shops. I’m lucky to live near the River Tees, Co Durham and often walk the banks picking up broken glass, pottery anything that can be cleaned and re-worked and crafted into something new. Bits and bobs found by chance waiting to find new homes.

You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.

Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; items which deteriorate quickly (e.g. food), personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken; digital items.

Additional terms

Hand crafted Jewellery and framed artworks using pre loved and discarded ceramics. Ceramic material will show signs of wear and damage. Entire process is a creative experience from discovery to final picture, nothing planned or preconceived. All materials personally collected from river banks, charity shops, roadside, woods, recycle centres, beaches, wherever dropped, dumped or donated ceramics are found, cleaned and shaped into new stories. Each piece comes with a short bio of where the ceramic came from, date found and re-created. Some shards collected are used as found, others are cut randomly which shape the final work. Every piece is individual, nothing replicated, however, due to repetitive patterns in ceramics there will be some similarity but only through the ceramic material not in the final piece.

Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.

Full description

‘Island’

Created September 2020

From half a broken saucer.

In August 2020 I bought a box of mis-matched ceramics from a charity shop in Darlington. It was filled with odds and ends and at the bottom of the box I found a half of a saucer.

I usually clip ceramic with a tile cutter but decided to drop the saucer instead, this created random shards. The pieces formed suggested a scene rather than jewellery, the shapes and patterns a feel of an island. Due to the nature of the ceramic and its original form the pieces stands outwards, the six shards in different positions.

I had a donation of some reclaimed, recycled frames which included a small white painted box frame. This little white frame was perfect for the ‘Island’. A bit rough in places, I usually prefer plain brown but the white feels right for this scene.

The idea is to create something new from old, the finished piece isn’t meant to be perfect, exact or highly polished. Any scratches, glue marks represent the process of creating and the character of the original ceramic.

A small broken saucer found in Darlington, North East destined to be thrown away has now started a new life as ‘Island’ by Shards.

Delivered in Recycled Packaging and comes with short Bio.

Picture frame is Recycled and shows signs of imperfections.

Measures approximately 10cm x 10cm x 3.5cm
