Have you ever been so lucky as to see a kingfisher in their natural environment? If you have you will totally understand why this bird is so special to many. A rare sighting of this bird is often just a flash of blue on a river and then it has gone. I have had the good luck to see a kingfisher, only a couple of times, along the river in a local park where I live near Newcastle. This has been my inspiration to create this beautiful bird with glass.

Made using the Tiffany technique , each piece of glass is hand cut and ground to shape. After washing, each piece is wrapped in copper foil before soldering the pieces together. A brass ‘branch’ is attached with decorative leaves. The whole piece is thoroughly washed and a black patina applied. A wax seals the solder and is then polished.

A nylon string is attached to a hanging ring but you can attach a ribbon or chain if you wish. It can be attached to a sucker on the window but care must be taken to check that it is secure. Or alternatively it can be attached to a hook.

The piece measures 17cm x 17 cm which includes the branch.
