Item details

I am a glass artist but approximately twice a year I will challenge myself. My challenges are usually: Picasso, Matisse, or Gustav Klimt, all of which I admire.

2023, I challenged myself to do a poly-print. Picasso was my first choice as his work tends to be chunky and linear (Cubism).

I am pleased with the final piece. :)

Full description

Picasso has to be my favorite artist. I am continually drawn to his work.

Handmade 'Portrait of Dora Maar', by Pablo Picasso 1937.

'Dora Maar was represented in all styles and manners of painting Picasso had tried before. However even Picasso himself noted that he could never paint her smiling. The most typical feature of Dora’s portraits are large and deep eyes full of tears, or anxiety, or grief, or just dreamy'.

This is my interpretation of Dora Maar. A poly-Print that took approximately 5 hours to produce. Only one colour could be printed daily as the printing ink needed 24 hours to dry.

Out of the 6 prints that I made only 2 were good enough (in my opinion) to frame. I am a bit of a perfectionist.

Dora Maar has been printed on good quality thick card and has been set in a simple square white frame.

Frame measures: 43cm square, 2.5cm depth.

Picture measures: 30cm square.

Picture has my initials on bottom right 'AM'.

Frame has fittings to allow it to be hung.

Picture details are on reverse of the frame.

Designed by Alison MacVicar in Stewarton, East Ayrshire, Scotland.
