Shell pearls are laboratory made from the shell of an oyster and can be made into various shapes. In order to produce a quality shell pearl, a key ingredient is a 'mother of pearl bead'. This element adds weight, and durability to the pearl. In fact, the materials used in order to make shell pearls are the same materials from which cultured pearls are naturally made. Shell pearls are less likely to be damaged by perfumes, soaps, creams and hairspray etc as the cultured pearl would be.
