Formerly 'Buttons, Beads and Blanket Stitch'.

My work predominantly comprises hand cut and burnished lino prints, with sewing playing an occasional part.

Whether working in print or in stitch, I am inspired by the natural world and the people around me, with words/text frequently playing an integral part.

* I endeavour to represent my pieces as clearly and with colours as true to life as possible, however some slight variations in tone between the image on screen and the piece itself may occur.*

On from ‘The Promise of Tulips’, where the lush green foliage was celebrated, this print depicts what happened next, showing our glorious tulips in full bloom. I sketched the differing shapes of each variety but chose to reproduce all of the flowers in the stunning orange.

Full description

With sketches made, cut up and re-assembled and the text and final layout decided upon, I transferred this design onto a traditional hessian backed lino which I then hand cut and burnished onto a beautiful handmade Nepalese paper. The inconsistencies from paper to paper in terms of texture, thickness etc are a big part of the charm of this beautiful surface.

The paper measures approx. 25cm x 38cm with the printed image itself measuring approx. 20cm x 30cm.

Each of this small edition of just 11 is printed in a lovely vibrant orange oil-based ink, echoing the colour of one of the varieties of tulip depicted. Each print is numbered, titled and signed and having been printed by hand, slight variations from print to print will occur; such is the beauty of a unique, hand-crafted piece.

Your print will be posted to you wrapped in tissue and rolled within a cardboard tube. On its arrival, remove the print from the tube and allow it time to unfurl. (Lying the print on a flat surface under a heavy book may help to speed up the flattening process – do not be tempted to roll the print in the opposite way as this will almost certainly result in creasing and possibly damaging the print).
